Welcome to Our Autism Village
Hi, I’m glad you’re here.
My name is Helen, and I am a married mother of four. I have two sons with autism, ages 16 and 18, with very different support needs. It’s been a long journey, and I hope what I’ve learned can help someone else. I’m also a special education teacher who has worked with students at all levels, helping them reach their potential and supporting families along the way. Through the blog, I aim to share insights, practical tips, and personal experiences to guide and encourage others navigating similar paths.
You’re not alone here.
If you made it this far, I imagine you’re a lot like me. You’re an autism parent looking for answers — and maybe some support from people who truly understand. I’ve been an autism parent for nearly 19 years now, and I’m still figuring it out every single day.
The truth is, being an autism parent can be deeply isolating, though you might not notice it at first. You’re busy raising your kids, managing appointments, keeping the house running, working — just surviving. Then your children get older. Things slow down a little, and you finally have space to notice what’s missing.
You realize your “tribe” — the people who used to be there — is gone. And somewhere along the way, you never had time to build your village. The people you see at school or the grocery store may be kind, but they often can’t understand what your daily life is really like. After raising autistic children for nearly two decades, I still struggle with how much misunderstanding exists. Let’s change that together.
Let’s build our village together.
With this site, I hope you’ll feel less isolated. I’m here to share the truth — the ugly, the joy, the frustration, and the happiness — that I find in autism each day. My goal is to grow this site into a real community, one that helps us feel less alone on a journey we never asked to be on. Thank you for joining me early in the process. I hope you’ll come back and see how we grow together.

Keep Our Village Growing
If this space has helped you feel a little less alone, and you’re able to, you can support Our Autism Village with a small contribution on Ko-Fi. There is absolutely no obligation — your presence here matters just as much.
